The Ideal HD TV Surround Sound Set Up

The Ideal HD TV Surround Sound Set Up

Hdmi

Get the best out of your home theatre. High Definition TV brings you Dolby Digital (TM) 5.1 surround sound. 5.1 means five speakers and one subwoofer to envelope you in sound.

Two front speakers and two rear speakers put you in the centre of the action. A fifth, centre-channel speaker is positioned above or below your TV. The subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, and delivers the low-frequency bass effects to complete the big cinema sound experience.

A surround sound system is usually completed with a "receiver" box that controls the sound for all the speakers.

To maximise your HD Television set-up choose the right audio cables to connect surround sound to your HD TV. Connections do matter.

Some cabling of the options for setting up your HD TV Surround Sound are;

- HDMI cable - The simplest and best way to connect your HD TV to surround sound, HDMI cables carry crisp, clear audio and video signals in a single cable.

- Optical cable - Transferred in a fibre optic cable, this audio signal is sent with light pulses and supports stereo to multi-channel audio transmission. Compatible with AC-3, Dolby Digital and Stereo.

- Digital Coax cable - Transferred in a single shielded cable, this audio signal is sent with electrical signals, and supports stereo to multi-channel audio transmission. Compatible with AC-3, Dolby Digital and Stereo.

- RCA cable - An analogue signal output used to transmit mono or stereo audio channels

Get even more from your High Definition TV [http://hd.foxtel.com.au/what-is-hd/hd-surround-sound.php] with an audio set-up that puts you right in the middle of the action.

HDMI Matrix Switch - Your Wise Choice for Home Theater

HDMI Matrix Switch - Your Wise Choice for Home Theater

Hdmi

Nowadays, it's common for a family especially those home theater enthusiasts to have several HDMI sources, like blu-ray DVD player, PS3 video game player, set-up box and more. With so many HD sources, most families would buy 2 or more HD Displays for convenient sharing. The HDMI splitters will duplicate your HD source and display the same HD source on the HD displays. In this case, HDMI matrix would be a perfect solution for systems with dual or multiple sources and displays such as high-end home theaters.

The "HDMI matrix switch" distributes multiple HD sources to different outputs simultaneously. The working system looks like matrix: the "HDMI matrix switcher" allows any input to be routed to any output; or the same input to be routed to all outputs or any combination. It completely eliminates the need to constantly move around video input and output cables, and is great for creating an awesome and inspiring multi-media experience or simply allowing multiple members of the family the freedom to watch from whatever source they choose on their own screen. And there are two options available for you: "4X2 HDMI matrix" and "4X4 HDMI matrix".

Since HDMI matrix works as a combination of HDMI switch and HDMI splitter, to get a HDMI matrix is really a pretty good deal - economical and powerful.

Now the newly-released "3D version 4X2 HDMI matrix" can support 3D programs like 3D DVD movies and 3D video games. Then the "3D 4x2 HDMI matrix" is a fantastic choice you'd not miss.

If Your HDMI Cables Are Too Short, What Can You Do?

If Your HDMI Cables Are Too Short, What Can You Do?

Hdmi

A pretty common problem that comes with the advent of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) becoming the new industry standard for transmitting TV signals is how to select the correct length HDMI lead. In the old days when everything was carried by RG6 Coaxial cable, it was possible to run the signal over pretty long runs and then simply cut the cable to length and fit a coax connector and simply connect it to the TV. Although RG6 cable is still used to connect the satellite dish to say for example a Freesat+ receiver, the output from the box to the TV will now invariably be a HDMI cable.

Another complicating factor is the popularity of hanging Flat screen TVs on a bare walls or over a fireplace. Obviously nobody wants HDMI cables tacked along the wall, so invariably the cables are being buried in the wall and normally run from the TV to a nearby built in unit which will house the satellite receiver. What makes selecting the correct length of lead is that it is not possible to simply extend or shorten the lead. In general there is a good selection of HDMI cables ranging from 1m all the way up to 20m, with the upper limit being due to the level of signal loss that occurs in cables that are no longer than 20m.

No matter how well you plan it there is always a possibility the the cable will too short. For example the HDMI input on your new HD TV is in a different location than you expected, or you decide to mount the TV in a slightly different location. There are 2 options when it comes to extending a HDMI cable.

The first and simplest option is to simply use a HDMI coupler which comes with sockets on both ends into which to insert HDMI cables. This option is both inexpensive, compact and does not need a power supply. It is however only suitable to use when the combined length of the 2 cables is less than 20m.

The other option is to use a HDMI repeater, which is a powered unit that both joins 2 HDMI cables together and also boosts the signal. Normally this unit is used when combining HDMI leads where the combined length is over 20m. The need to have the unit plugged in and its cost are certainly issues, but this is an essential unit on very long runs.

A final note on HDMI cables is that in general over short runs, the difference in the signal loss between a low cost and an expensive HDMI is pretty minimal. Where spending the extra money is worth while is on long runs of cable. Most of the cost lost HDMI supplier don't do budget level cables that are longer than 5 or 10m.

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Review: Acer Aspire One 722

Hdmi

The Acer Aspire One 722 can be described as a reliable, economical Netbook with HDMI. It's less expensive as some products, yet it is cheaper than most, which might more than make up for it in the benefit department. If you currently have a powerful laptop and just need a lighter-weight netbook for travelling, or if you are looking for an inexpensive media PC, or if perhaps you're looking for an starting laptop for a child, the Acer Aspire One 722 could easily be the Netbook suitable for you.

Hardware Details

AMD Dual-Core C-50 1.0 GHz processor 2GB DDR3 SDRAM 250 GB 5400RPM hard drive ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics card w/ 256MB dedicated memory 8" x 11.2" x 1" 3.2 pounds

Keyboard and Touchpad

There is no two ways about this - the keyboard feels filled and flexes uncomfortably. Other, similarly-sized products find a way to offer up far more room, although they're working in a similar form factor. The arrow keys are all half-sized, with "extra" shortcut keys over the left and right keys, which basically just can get in the way when attempting to move around quickly. This, not to mention the fact that the laptop keyboard flexes downwards at the drop of a hat (or the press of a key!) brings about the many more problems while typing than usual.

Then again, the touchpad is impressive in how unremarkable it really is. It's the same texture as the other parts of the body, therefore it doesn't stand out awkwardly. It's matte in texture, so your are capable of sense exactly where your fingers are. The mouse button bar is extremely reactive, and left and right-click are very well defined. You won't end up making numerous problems on this touchpad - the truth is you'll scarcely notice it's there in any respect! You'll only use it exactly as you expect and it will work as intended, that is optimal for virtually any trackpad.

Screen

Similarly, the display suffers from a reduced budget too. Whenever turned up as high as it can go, the screen still seems a little dim, although the backlight is reasonably even - no areas seem much lighter or darker than any others. The viewing angle isn't too large, but if you're watching it as one individual, you will have no difficulties. If you want to share your display with multiple folks, you may as well connect to an external display with your Netbook HDMI port anyhow.

The display is at least big (11.6 inches) and high-resolution (1366 x 768). It's not a bad display by any means, however it certainly isn't a superb one.

Ports and Connectors

Needless to say, you get a Netbook HDMI port on this laptop, located on the left side. You will also get 3 USB ports, all of which are USB 2.0, meaning faster speed, which means less time spent moving files.

Included as well will be a VGA port (useful should you come across an older screen), a high-speed networking connector (excellent if you want to save or move a lot of files), and a webcam with mike. The webcam isn't stellar quality, but certainly a nice option if you wanted to have a very quick meeting.

OS and Software

The Acer Aspire One 722 comes installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which is a nice option. They could have supplied only 32-bit, as most versions of this Netbook only have 2 GB of RAM. The 64-bit variation provides you with the choice of upgrading your RAM later, in case you find your usage requires a bit more breathing space.

However, based on the place you get it from, your Aspire One 722 may show up with a lot of bloatware installed, which significantly reduces the initial impressions of a clean, new Netbook. Reasonably, all that's necessary installed on a fresh Netbook with HDMI is the os plus some kind of media player to let you display your high-definition movies. Trialware and software of doubtful value should not be packed in, as it doesn't actually add any value for the Netbook. This is an area where Acer falls down.

Dell XPS 15 L502X Review by The Digital Digest

Dell XPS 15 L502X Review by The Digital Digest Video Clips.

I just received the Dell XPS 15 L502X and wanted to give some initial impressions of this Sandy Bridge based multimedia notebook. This configuration has an Intel Core i7 2630QM (Sandy Bridge) CPU, 6GB DDR3 ram, 640GB 7200rpm HDD, Nvidia 525M w/1gb of ram and Optimus, Intel 1030 N w/ Bluetooth 3.0, 8X tray loading dual layer DVD burner and a full HD (1080p) 15.6 FHD B+RGLED display. HDMI, Display Port, SPDIF, HD webcam, back-lit keyboard, and USB 3.0 are all on board, making this 6+ pound laptop a true desktop replacement both in and out of the house. Battery life with the standard 6 cell battery averaged 4 hours, which for a Core i7 CPU based notebook is unheard of. This is one of the many performance gains that Intel's second generation Sandy Bridge architecture has to offer. Enjoy the video! -TDD

DVI & VGA - What's the Difference?

DVI & VGA - What's the Difference?

Hdmi

You've probably heard about these two types of connections before - and the number of times that they have been used on televisions and home entertainment systems. But what differences, are present between DVI and VGA cables which make up for the noticeable differences in video quality?

VGA, or otherwise known as Video Graphics Array, has been around since the late 1990s when it was first developed to connect monitors to Macs. The newer DVI, or Digital Video Interface, is both newer and more commonly used with intermediate displays and a number of higher quality digital equipment.

The differences between the two are not properly understood. The VGA display is based on analogue signals, and the data that is transferred through the cable after being converted from a graphics card and the converted into a digital format at the other end which is understood by the display. The drawback of this conversion process is not only the inability to monitor the exact monitor's elements, or in other words, individual pixels, and thus may lose some quality in the process depending on screen size, resolution, and synchronisation properties of the signal with the displays physical properties.

DVI provides a much faster and easier solution to this process, making it much more reliable as a means of transferring data for displays. Although there are several types of DVI which are available, they are designed to be compatible with each other as so to avoid setting different standards for different displays.

DVI-D is basically the base digital format. It transfers the signal from a DVI graphics card and then converts it into an analogue signal at the receiving end. Although this process still implements an analogue converting process, the end result display is still much higher than VGA due to the advancement in technology since the initial development of VGA.

Don't Ever Buy A Samsung LNT4665F - Review

Don't Ever Buy A Samsung LNT4665F - Review

Hdmi

While the Samsung LNT4665F may be the best selling 46" television on the internet, that doesn't mean it's a good fit for everyone. There are a number of serious flaws with the TV, that every consumer should be aware of. If your one of those brave souls willing to buy a big ticket item online without setting foot in a bricks and mortar store, then you really need to pay extra special attention. So, lets be both painfully critical and honest about this LCD TV.

There have been a number of reported problems with the HDMI inputs for the LNT4665F. In case your wondering what HDMI is, it stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is used for sending high definition signals to your TV. That would include game consoles, HD-DVD / Blu-Ray players, digital cable boxes, and HDTV camcorders / still cameras. Basically anything that is not your basic standard coaxial television signal. The most annoying HDMI issue is an intermittent blank screen. The TV screen just goes black occasionally while your watching something coming through the HDMI input. As unsettling as this problem may be, the worst part is, that Samsung can't seem to decide on what the correct solution is. Sometimes, they replace the motherboard, sometimes they upgrade the software, and sometimes they just blame it on a consumers faulty HDMI input device (usually a cable box). While this is not a problem with every LNT4665F, for the unfortunate few, it can be a real headache. If your really committed to buying this LCD, you may at least want to check with Samsung to see if they have a solid solution to this issue. Talking with customer support before buying any product can be a really smart consumer move. It also gives you an idea of how the company treats their customers before you shell out money on their product.

Clouding (sometimes called mura) can be a problem with several of the Samsung LCD models including the LNT4665F. Clouding appears on your screen as a patch of lighter color than would be normal for the scene being viewed. It's most noticeable on darker scenes. While there can be a number of causes for clouding, the most common is an uneven thickness of the liquid crystal material in the TV. A very difficult problem to fix. If the clouding is really bad, the only real solution, is to replace the TV. Some owners have reported that wiping the clouds with a dry cloth, can move them off the screen. Other suggestions (my least favorite) have suggested that a fan blowing on the TV vents will alleviate the problem.

While not really an issue with the TV, if your ordering online, or having your TV delivered then I would be remiss if I didn't talk about shipping problems. The bezel around the Samsung LNT4665F is not made of the strongest stuff. It's basically a pretty thin plastic housing, that can be susceptible to cracking, scratching and splitting even in the hands of the most gentle delivery person. To make things worse, the packaging used by Samsung for these TVs, is not the strongest stuff. The bottom line is this, take a few minutes when your TV arrives, unpack it from the carton, inspect for any obvious damage, and plug it in. Yes, this may mean making the delivery guy/gal wait a little bit. Offer them a coffee while they wait, if it makes you feel better. More importantly though, it may also save you hours on the phone with customer support.

HDMI For HDTV

HDMI For HDTV

Hdmi

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is now the standard digital audio-video cable for HDTV. HDMI simultaneously simplifies the installation by integrating all of the interconnects while also improving performance. HDTV signals are a significant challenge for distribution. When your service provider distributes the signal, say from a satellite to your home, the signal is compressed (see MPEG) to reduce the bandwidth. Once the signal is received by your receiver, the signal is uncompressed. HDMI can handle the signal at full bandwidth, unlike older standards like Firewire.

HDMI is an industry-supported specification. It is not a proprietary specification that one manufacturer is trying to force on the market. The industry needed a quality digital connection standard, and consumer electronics manufacturers decided to create a standard that would benefit both the industry and the consumer

A DVI connection offers comparable performance to HDMI. In fact, HDMI is built on the DVI standard. However, DVI became problematic because a strict interface standard was not maintained. HDMI should ensure that equipment compatibility is maintained. The HDMI connector is backwardly compatible with the existing DVI video input that is used on most PC video cards. The HDMI cable integrates all of the video signals, as opposed to component video where each of the RGB (red, green, black) signals has its own cable. Older interconnect techniques like S-Video or component video, require audio signals to be handled separately, and the performance is somewhat worse than HDMI.

Interoperability can be an issue with standards like HDMI. Most of these problems come about by improper implementations of the technology. When there have been problems, the HDMI standards group has required that the issue be resolved. Some products have been recalled. An exception are some set-top boxes uses by some local cable TV companies. Some of the boxes have compatibility problems that the cable companies have been unwilling to resolve.

HDMI allows for 2-way communication between components, so that, for example, your HDTV can tell your signal source whether the picture is 16:9 or 4:3. HDMI integrates remote control so that all HDMI compatible modules can be controlled with a single remote control. Push the play button for your Blu-Ray DVD player, and not only will the DVD start, but the HDTV, and audio components will automatically turn on. The standard used by HDMI is called "Consumer Electronics Control" (CEC). Companies have their own trade names for CEC. Examples are "Anynet" from Samsung, "BRAVIA Theatre Sync" from Sony, "Kuro Link" from Pioneer, "EasyLink" from Philips, and "NetCommand for HDMI" from Mitsubishi. All HDMI devices should be intercompatible.

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is the software protection scheme that is included with HDMI interfaces to prevent unauthorized copying of protected material. This can sometimes create problems with compatibility, but HDCP is a necessary evil. As more content is delivered digitally, the content producers are increasingly concerned with piracy because the content can be perfectly duplicated. Without copyright protection, content producers like movie studios would be unwilling to distribute their product. Most programming will only deliver full resolution on HDCP protected outputs.

Most currently available HDTV sets have two or more HDMI inputs so that different signals from your HDTV service provider (i.e. satellite system), Blu-ray DVD player, game console, and/or computer can be connected. If you are now selecting your HDTV set, note the number of HDMI inputs, and consider how many inputs you may need in the future. If your set does not have enough inputs, you may have to add a HDMI Switcher to you system. Figure on spending about 0.

Also integrated with HDMI are the audio signals. HDMI can handle eight channels of 24-bit audio at 192 kHz, enough for a 7.1 surround-sound system. This is needed for surround sound programming such as Dolby TrueHD and audiophile programming such as DTS-HD Master Audio. A Dolby TrueHD bit stream can carry up to 14 discrete sound channels. DTS-HD Master Audio delivers audio at the very high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on a Blu-ray DVD. In addition, DTS-HD Master Audio offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths.

There are multiple versions of HDMI cables. In addition the standard Type "A" connector, there is a "Mini-HDMI" (Type "C"), which is exactly what it sounds like: a miniaturized version for use with small peripherals like a camcorder. A special cable with a small connector on one end and a conventional type "A" HDMI connector on the other end is needed. Another version is "HDMI 1.3", which is supposed to be an enhanced version of HDMI capable of "deep purple". According the HDMI association, 98 percent of currently sold HDMI cables are compatible with HDMI 1.3.

HDMI cable length is an important consideration. Anything over 30 feet has the potential for causing significant degradation of the signal, but cable lengths of 75 feet or less will be OK in most circumstances. There is not a significant difference between expensive cables ( or more) and the inexpensive cables found at your discount retailer, or better yet from an on-line retailer like Amazon.com. Any cable marked the HDMI logo must have been tested at an HDMI Authorized Testing Center. A 6-foot cable should cost less than . Save your money for the items where money actually accomplishes something.

HDMI has become the de facto standard for HDTV interconnects. Even though some of the features of HDMI are probably not implemented fully on your current equipment, once you upgrade, HDMI will most likely support the interconnect needs, at least for the foreseeable future.

Canon SX230HS

Canon SX230HS

Hdmi

Does the Canon SX230HS have a Great Resolution and Does It Deliver Great Pictures?

The Canon SX230HS has been engineered as a new 2011 model; this camera is a high end offering within Canon's PowerShot series. While not as trim as some of the other cameras within the same lineup, this device is indeed powerful, offering the user a fantastic resolution, and the ability to capture extraordinary images, whether recording or capturing still shots. This mid-sized camera packs a lot of features inside its sophisticated, contemporary housing.

The Canon SX230HS is definitely a pocket-sized camera, but it has a thicker width than other cameras made by Canon. The corners on this device are rounded, giving the black housing gentle curves at every corner. The black housing is accentuated by a sliver border around the camera edge. Since this camera weighs more than many pocket-sized cameras, it feels bulkier and more durable when it is held. It is equipped with a retractable lens, a pop up flash, a 3 inch LCD display on its back panel, zoom controls, a tripod mount, a slot for memory cards, a compartment for the battery, and it has a shutter control button. It has a CMOS sensor inside, a USB port, and it can store images on SDHC, SDXC, and SD cards.

The Canon SX230HS has four different aspect ratios, a burst mode, and it can store files ranging from 63KB to 3084KB in size. This camera has a flash range of 2.5 feet to 11.5 feet, two focusing modes, and 12.1 effective megapixels. It operates off of a rechargeable battery comprised of lithium ion. This device has an ISO range from 100 to 3200, a minimum resolution of 480p x 480p, and a maximum resolution of 4000p x 3000p. It has eight white balance settings, a 4X digital and 14X optical zoom lens, three self timer settings, an auto and movie mode, and it has a number of custom image presets. This camera even has a lot of manual controls for customizable settings.

The resolution on this device is definitely superior. The Canon SX230HS also has an autofocus feature to ensure clear stills with every shot. It also comes with Dynamic IS mode and image stabilization features which help to eliminate blurring or issues with camera shake. You get about ten different resolutions to choose from with this device, all with varying aspect ratios of 16:9, 4:3, 1:1 or 3:2. This device is also GPS enabled with a GPS tracker feature; now you can label your photos based upon your actual coordinates. You even get plenty of in camera editing and manipulation tools making this gadget well worth its price.

The Canon SX230HS has nicely sized buttons for operation, making it easy to manipulate. Stills are presented with your choice of resolution and every pixel is presented in a flawless fashion. This camera is a superior point and click option, but it works equally well for those that appreciate manual controls. Weighing all of 223 grams, you will want to take the SX230HS with you everywhere you go; it serves as a great picture taking tool for the on-the-go individual.

How to do Flash Studio Photography with Water Splash Strobes Speedlite

How to do Flash Studio Photography with Water Splash Strobes Speedlite On YouTube.

Here is a little video on how I did the flash photography with Canon Speedlites while dropping items into a tank of water. With a white background, I used a Canon Speedlite 580ex II on the left and right of the fish tank with water. They were set to manual 1/128sec. I had a Canon Speedlite 430ex ii on a chair behind the fish tank pointing towards the white background so it would come out pure white. This was set to manual 1/64th of a second (I would of done 1/128 but the 430ex ii can only go down to 1/64). You want to go 1/128 so it freezes the splash mid air. I also used another Canon Speedlite 430ex II in front of the tank at a 45 degree angle to fill the shadows on the front of the object your dropping. This one isn't totally necessary cause you can angle the side flashes a little to help hit the front of the object, but I had the flash available and I liked the results better when using it. I only had to squeegee the tank splashes once every 10 or so drops when using white cause its really easy to remove the spots in Lightroom with the exposure brush. But on the black background, it was a totally different story. I had to squeegee every single time or the spots on the side of the tank would appear as bright as day in your photo, making it much harder to remove them in post. I bought a squeegee from WalMart for .50, and cut the handle off (since otherwise the handle would hit the end of the tank before I was done wiping it off). With a black background, you dont need ...

HDMI Splitter - Enables High End Connectivity Simultaneously to Multiple HDMI Display Devices

HDMI Splitter - Enables High End Connectivity Simultaneously to Multiple HDMI Display Devices

Hdmi

Devices with an HDMI output can be connected to two or more HDTV displays using a HDMI Splitter. It has the ability to split the video signal, duplicate it and distribute it to multiple displays with synchronized output available on all displays. It enables a clean, simultaneous distribution of one high-definition signal to multiple HDMI displays. Set-top boxes, DVD players, D-VHS players, play stations, and other high definition devices can all be connected using these splitters. These devices provide a low cost solution for video and audio equipment integration.

Available in a wide range of sizes such as 1x2, 1x4, 2x2, 2x4, 4x4, and 2x8 models, this video distribution amplifier can be cascaded for a larger distribution. Once a flexible distribution hub is created, a user has the option to view the display on many display devices. The HDMI Matrix unit combines an HDMI splitter and an HDMI switch allowing multiple video inputs to be displayed on multiple video displays. Control is done through push buttons on the unit or RS232, but optional methods include IR and TCP/IP control. This device includes a signal boosting system for longer cable runs. Resolutions ranging from 720i, 720p, 1080i to 1080p can all be supported by these devices thereby providing crystal clear displays. They work on the simple principle of plug and play and support devices which are HDCP compliant and FCC CE certified. It does not have any compatibility issues with any of the operating systems. Easy to install, this video splitter does not require software or drivers for operation. It does not convert the digital signals to analog and then back to digital but keeps all signals in an uncompressed digital format. HDMI is backward compatible with DVI hence this system works with both DVI and HDMI inputs assuming proper converters are used in conjunction with the splitter.

Businesses, conference rooms, classrooms, corporate training facilities, data centers, control rooms, digital signage applications, casinos, space and security organizations are systems wherein dual or multiple display is required hence the HDMI Splitter is used in such places as it is the ultimate interface to enjoy supreme quality high definition audio and video.

Why HDMI is the Number One Choice For All Your Home Theatre Connections

Why HDMI is the Number One Choice For All Your Home Theatre Connections

Hdmi

The introduction of high definition TV has truly enhanced the home cinema experience enjoyed by consumers, but it has also caused a lot of confusion and uncertainty. It doesn't help that manufacturers have been focusing their efforts on several different connection types over the past decade, which means that there are now thousands of different devices on the market, all of which use different types of plugs. FireWire, DVI, and HDMI are all connection types that have enjoyed the limelight and have been found on the backs of TVs at one time or another, and now most consumers are totally confused about the differences between these connections and which type is best.

What's The Big Deal About Connections?

Many people don't understand why there is such a big deal about something as simple as a connection, surely it's just a way of plugging the cable into the TV; surely all connections basically do the same thing? The war between different connection types really boils down to money. It costs companies a fortune to develop a new connection platform, therefore they are eager to get as many manufacturers using their connection as possible so that they can charge a royalty. If one connection emerges as the global standard, then it can be incredibly lucrative for the company that owns the royalty rights; hence the fierce competition to try and establish each of the connections mentioned above as the global standard connection for all HD devices.

The Emergence of HDMI

As the technology behind HD TV developed it quickly became apparent that a new connection was needed that not only delivered digital quality signals, but was also easy for consumers to use. The first attempt at a digital connection was FireWire - this used just one cable to deliver audio and video signals, and also allowed devices to communicate with each other. However FireWire never really gained much support from manufacturers and hence soon fell out of fashion without ever reaching its potential.

DVI was next and was originally developed for the PC industry. DVI cables only carried video signals, but they could support both digital and analogue connections. When home entertainment manufacturers saw that DVI had gained favour with PC users they started to incorporate DVI connections into their products. However, the large form factor and lack of audio support meant that it wasn't ideally suited for use in home cinema systems.

HDMI is almost identical to DVI; however it does offer improvements in some important areas. For instance, HDMI cables use a plug with a much smaller form factor, which is important when space behind your home entertainment system is limited. HDMI is also able to carry both audio and video signals in a single cable, meaning that only one cable is needed to make a connection. HDMI cables can also carry a remote control command, which helps to simplify the process of connecting and using several devices together. Perhaps most importantly, HDMI cables are also relatively cheap to produce, and have therefore become a favourite with HD TV and home entertainment manufacturers.

HDMI Is The Sensible Choice

As you can see HDMI cables offer several advantages over the other types of connection, which explains why the vast majority of home entertainment equipment manufactured in the past couple of years almost certainly uses HDMI as the standard type of interface.

Menotek Gold Plated 3FT HDMI Cable Advanced High Speed Cat 2/Category 2 + Ethernet and 3D and Audio Return Channel 1080P
Why spend your money on a cable that will soon be outdated. The HDMI 1.4 specification will offer the following enhanced functionalities: HDMI Ethernet Channel The HDMI 1.4 specification will add a data channel to the HDMI cable and will enable high-speed bi-directional communication. Connected devices that include this feature will be able to send and receive data via 100 Mb/sec Ethernet, making them instantly ready for any IP-based application. The HDMI Ethernet Channel will allow an Internet-enabled HDMI device to share its Internet connection with other HDMI devices without the need for a separate Ethernet cable. The new feature will also provide the connection platform to allow HDMI-enabled devices to share content between devices. Audio Return Channel The new specification will add an Audio Return Channel that will reduce the number of cables required to deliver audio upstream for processing and playback. In cases where HDTVs are directly receiving audio and video content, this new Audio Return Channel allows the HDTV to send the audio stream to the A/V receiver over the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for an extra cable. 3D Over HDMI The 1.4 version of the specification will define common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI-enabled devices. The specification will standardize the input/output portion of the home 3D system and will specify up to dual-stream 1080P resolution.

Ever Asked How to Connect a TV to a Computer? Here's the Answer

Ever Asked How to Connect a TV to a Computer? Here's the Answer

Hdmi

Nearly all modern TVs (Plasma, LCD or TFT) maybe connected to your Computers (Laptops, Laptop computers or PC). This can be done almost immediately with a range of cables or connections like VGA, RGB, DVI, HDMI, S-video or RCA straight out of the box. The most common of these connections is the VGA it is probably the easiest way to connect a TV to a computer. VGA has been used to connect monitors or screens to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of computers for many years now. If you have a Laptop it will be the cable used to connect an external monitor.

There are other ways to ask the same question when connecting Computers and TVs so if your have thought of any of the following:

o    How to connect your TV to your Computer?

o    How to connect TV to computer?

o    How to connect a TV to a computer?

o    How to connect your computer to your TV?

o    Is there anyway of connecting TV to computer?

o    How to hook up computer to TV?

Then continue reading.

If you do not posses any of the connectors mentioned so far you can buy them from any Electrical or Computer shop. With any of the cables connections you will be able to easily bridge the gap between your Laptop/Computer and TV. If your Television (TV) is not equipped with either VGA or DVI then the process will not be as straight forward but it still should not be too difficult to connect a TV to a computer. You could consider using RCA or S-video as a way to hook up computer to TV. All is not lost, so do not get down heartened if your TV does not have any of these connections. All that is needed is a VGA to TV converter which will give you either an S-video or RCA to connect to so you will be up and running in no time. Yet another way of connecting your computer to your TV is with HDMI. The only draw back is your TV must be HDMI compatible, this should not be problem as it is becoming more common these days. So to connect a TV to a computer will be as easy as pie.

Once you have all the required connections it maybe necessary to set your TVs to accept the output signal from your Laptop/Computer. You will find the instructions to achieve this within the menu of your TV, if it cannot be found then consult your TV manual for instructions. If all the connections are firmly in place and the TV is setup correctly to receive the computers signal you should see your computer screen on your TV.

If you would like to make this connection as seamless as possible you could purchase a switch to change from Computer monitor to TV screen without disconnecting any of the connections. I must stress that this is not essential so you do not have to buy one. If you feel it is needed it is available at most Computer or Electrical stores.

For those of you who are a little more adventurous you could go a little step further and tap into the audio of your Computer/Laptop. Again to accomplish this Computer connection to TV audio you might have all the connections you need. This can be done with a Mini Stereo plug/jack to a Phono lead (RCA composite audio). The Mini Stereo plug goes into the audio output normally at the back of your Computer or into the audio output of your Laptop. The Phono ends goes into the audio input of your TV. This would mean there is no connection output to your Computer or Laptop speakers to get audio output to both the Computer/Laptop speakers and your TV your need a mini plug splitter, which is self explanatory to install. You will now have both Audio and Video signals from your Computer/Laptop and your TV.

That was the basics of how to connect your TV to your Computer. To go further still you can reconfigure and or purchase more equipment to enhance your Home Entertainment System.

You have had a good start so never will you ask yourself any of the following questions again.

o    How to connect your TV to your Computer?

o    How to connect TV to computer?

o    How to connect your computer to your TV?

o    Is there anyway of connecting TV to computer?

o    How to hook up computer to TV?

o    How do you connect your computer to your TV?
